Samsung Galaxy S22 s are about to get their last big software update. This will be One UI 8 on Android 16. This update ends four years of major Android updates for the Galaxy S22 series. Here is what you should know.

No more major Android updates after this

Samsung launched the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 + and Galaxy S22 Ultra in 2022 with a promise of four years of Android updates. The phone was released with Android 12 and will finish with Android 16 through One UI 8. After this update the S22 will only get security patches until 2027. New Android versions like Android 17 will not come to the S22 series.

What to expect in Android 16 – One UI 8 ?

While Samsung hasn’t officially given any details about One UI 8 features, leaks and early reports suggest a focus on refinement over radical change. Here’s what’s expected:

  • Smoother Animations. Samsung has improved the animation with One UI 7.0 and will improve it further with the One UI 8.
  • Always On Display now fades to the lock screen in a neat way. All animations feel quick.
  • A feature called Auracast will let s share audio with friends’ devices using QR codes.
  • It will come with stronger privacy features. Android 16 limits background apps and offers new permission pop ups.
  • It will offer faster phone switch. Smart Switch moves data faster over WiFi.

What happens after One UI 8?

After One UI 8 the Galaxy S22 series devices will still get security updates but no new features. s wanting the latest Android versions after 2026 will need to newer phones like the Galaxy S25.

Notably: Samsung’s newer policy now offers seven years of updates for the Galaxy S24 series and beyond, but this does not retroactively apply to the Galaxy S22 series.
